Ramsin Khachi's Gifts For The Do-It-Yourselfer

By Suzanne Ellis

For our first ever CityLine.ca Holiday Gift Guide, we asked some of our guests and guest experts for their suggestions on what to get that special someone based on their area of expertise.

Here, Ramsin Khachi shares five gift ideas for the DIY guy or gal.

Tools and toolkits: “When you get into tools I’d say don’t go and buy an expensive tool because that’s a very personal thing. They might want a specific drill (for instance). If you know they want a specific drill, go ahead and spend that money, it’s a good investment. But look at the kits – a lot of manufacturers produce kits. Ryobi has a kit called Tek 4 and they have maybe 10 items in that grouping. So buy one of those items, that’s a great gift because you can start them off. Buy one that they would normally not buy, because it’s a bit of a luxury for them. The noise-reducing headphones from that series is something your guy or girl may not buy, but it’d be cool to have.”

Milwaukee snake camera: “You can look for things behind your engine block or if you drop something somewhere. A great thing to buy. The thing to remember is stay in line with the tools they have now – if they have Milwaukee tools try to stay in that line because a lot of times the batteries are interchangeable. So it gives them the option to expand the line of tools that they have.”

LED flashlights:  “Great stocking stuffer idea.”

Screwdrivers: “Can’t have enough screwdrivers. Hand tools are great stocking stuffers.”

Tiny torpedo levels, measuring tapes: “These are things that break over time that are great to replace. Maybe go in the toolbox and see if he has a socket set and if some of them are stripped, broken, or missing.”

Gift cards: “Gift cards are like free money. Gift cards from Home Depot or RONA or any home improvement place.”
